Cuban Travel Photos #8 – Afro-Cuban Dance & Drums in Havana

This was another highlight of the trip. This company combines Afro-Cuban dance and music in one

Cubans are very proud of their support of empowering women. Traditionally, women were not allowed to touch the sacred African drum. This company specifically tries to encourage woman to not only dance, but play this particular drum.IMG_9549

This is the director of the company. He is a musician and makes many unique instruments.

Here is a drum he made himself. It is carved out of one piece of wood to create four drums.

The other unique aspect of this dance troop in that they use non traditional objects to create sound. Here they are using Cuban Cow hide chairs as drums.
